painters

in this blog i'll be critiqueing the two images that are below. the first a salvador dali featuring some scantily clad women under a light. that form a skull which i saw first when i saw it on the google page not the women in this picture but at a second glance i noticed that the eye sockets were heads and the teeth were flesh from the women. salvador dali

dali's intent for this image was probably to decieve the unwary observer into seeing the skull or the women but not both at the same time. whoa

the quality of this painting could be debated. but i think it's a good painting because i think it acomplishes what dali wants the image to do.

reponse the first reponse to this image is usually "look a skull wait a minute"

this picture is by willem de kooning called seated woman
intention- i don't know maybe he just wanted to draw a woman sitting or he was bored
quality-well personally i don't think he got much talent as an artist so i don't actually know how he became an known artist.
reponse- well a five year old with the same tool as de kooning could come up with something better.

ART...

art is there really a clear definetion of what is art.

wikipedia says art is the process or product of deliberately and creatively arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions, especially beauty. In its narrow sense, the word art most often refers specifically to the visual arts, including media such as painting, sculpture, and printmaking. However, "the arts" may also encompass a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music and literature. Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy which studies art.

where dictionary.com has 19 different definition varying from

art-the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance

ethical reactions

Which theories are relevant to your ethical values and behaviours?

Consequentialism is the theory that a morally right action is one that produces a good outcome, or consequence.most of the time I use this theory to establish whether or not the action I take is the right one or wrong one. then depending on the effect on me and the people around me I decide the apropriate action. so if you when more specificly I use Ethical egoism to make decision that impact me directly.

Ethical Problem

my ethical problem is
A man has been sentenced to prison for armed robbery, and admits guilt for the deed. "But", he argues,"I'll never do anything of the kind again. I'm not insane or a danger to society. I would be happier out of jail than in. My wife depends on me for support and she and the children would be far happier if I were able to be the family breadwinner again. As to the influence on others, almost no one would ever know about it; you can keep the matter out of the newspapers and no one except you will ever know that the crime was committed. Therefore, you should release me" Assuming he is correct, what would you do?

I would sentence this man to 5 years in prison and early parole. this sentence would be to still punish this man for he's wrong doing and hopefully he won't do it again. but if he has done some prior crimes he should get a more severe punishment than if it was his first crime.
